FS residents urged to be cautious

Free State residents have been urged to be cautious and to take heed of thunderstorm precautionary measures.

OFM News reports this, as the South African Weather Service issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for western and central KZN, the eastern Free State and southern Highveld of Mpumalanga for the next three days.

Residents in these provinces are further warned of hail, strong winds, and heavy rain which could lead to flooding of susceptible roads.

The Mangaung Metro Municipality says not much damage occurred on Monday as a result of thunderstorms, but appeals to all of its residents to keep safe.

Spokesperson Qondile Khedama, has urged residents to stay away from open bodies of water, among other safety measures.

He in a statement adds the City’s Fire and Emergency Services Unit is ready for any eventuality and has compiled tips that members of the community can use to stay safe during this period – when lightning strikes may occur.

These includes staying indoors and away from windows, avoid standing under trees or being in contact of metal, among others.
