Congress of the People (Cope) in the Free State believes residents deserve to know the truth ahead of premier Ace Magashule’s state of the province address.
Cope’s Casca Mokitlane says Magashule is going to shy away from and not mention some controversial issues affecting the province. He was addressing the media on Wednesday in Bloemfontein. The state of the province address will take place at the University of the Free State South Campus (Vista) on Friday.
Mokitlane says some of the issues are the R570 million dairy project in Vrede that have led to health and safety risks due to cattle buried in a shallow grave, the incomplete Gariep fishery project which allegedly has cost R55 million, the controversial Letlaka media
that has been contracted a R140 million provincial website, and the N8 railway line that has not been constructed.
“We are going to this state of the province address at the time when the province is burning. We want the premier to confront these issues, not to avoid them, but to tell us what is happening, why these projects are not moving. Is it because he has not planned them properly? If he is to be quick to make announcements or promises, we want to know what the situation is. The health department is a disaster, this province lacks leadership,” says Mokitlane.
According to Mokitlane Magashule is power hungry and even wants his department to manage projects from other departments.
