The Free State provincial government, including various departments, will scrutinise some of the deeply rooted social ills among others issues that continue to plague the province through a colloquium of in-depth academic research.

MEC for provincial treasury, Gadija Brown, says the Department Of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism And Environmental Affairs (Destea) and the office of the Premier, Sisi Ntombela, are working together in the search for answers to the issues of poverty, unemployment and inequality among others.

She says this colloquium – set for 18-19 September – will further include researchers, policymakers, practitioners and postgraduates. Brown adds anyone who has ideas on how to turn around the plight of the province can approach these three departments and present whatever they think could be of help.

In an exclusive interview with OFM News, she shares that the province will seek to take advantage of the Africa Free Trade agreement, signed by African leaders recently.
