Free State Premier Ace Magashule might soon use the appointment of a new MEC to reshuffle his provincial cabinet.
This follows after Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Olly Mlamleli’s position became vacant after she was sworn in as the new Executive Mayor for Mangaung Metro Municipality.
She replaced Thabo Manyoni, who is also the deputy provincial chairperson of the ANC in the province. Although Manyoni was also sworn in as an ordinary council, he is expected to be re-deployed soon.
Provincial spokesperson for the ANC in the Free State, Thabo Meeko, confirmed that the appointment of a new MEC might constitute a reshuffling.
“The possibility is that the deployment to that department might warrant the reshuffling of the entire cabinet, depending on how the premier would like to reposition the cabinet as per individual MEC’s and as per our programme and to ensure to respond to issues that people have raised during the elections,” he says.
