Free State Premier discovers hidden medical consumables at an unused hospital storeroom.
Ace Magashule discovered medical consumables packed at an outside storeroom on Friday during his international Mandela Day celebration at Pelonomi Hospital, in Bloemfontein. Magashule said the medical essentials were very expensive and were hidden where the hospital keeps some of its broken furniture.
“Those consumables expired around 2017 in December and September of that year. I have taken everything. I will hold a media conference on Monday to show people what exactly we have found in a building that is delapitated. People still buy the same consumables while they are being stored here. This is clear corruption and we will be taking action on this. It is a sad part that most hospitals have medicines and medical consumables, it is just that they are being stored for patients and not used,” he said.
Magashule said he will meet with various health unions and the health management. In September last year, boxes of medicine, including epilepsy medication were found piled up in an unsecured environment at the Bloemfontein City Hall and the health department was reported to not have been aware of the matter.
