Free State MEC of Health says if he it was up to him, he would have fired everyone from his department.
Benny Malakoane was speaking at the Public Account Committee at the Free State Legislature in Bloemfontein this morning.
He says he meant it in figurative way due to all the problems that he’s responsible for after joining the department six months ago. Malakoane says all the problems in his department have been there for a long time and nobody did anything about it.
He says now he is held responsible for mistakes he wasn’t responsible for. Malakoane says the committee’s questions dwelled on previous mistakes as if they were made presently.
“I felt it necessary to give the perspective of what we are doing with regard to the findings that we have made, most of which were not even found by the Auditor-general. We found mistakes ourselves in the first 100 days. Those aspects should also have been addressed in terms of what we have done since I have diagnosed or found these prevalent problems,” he says.
