The Free State Health Department has put into place a system to pay off its debt that has accumulated over the years. FS Health MEC, Benny Malakoane says that his department has been able to pay a majority of the debtors that they owed less than R500 000 with the total debt with them being R54 million.
“We have been able to pay R47 million of that amount. Of those that we owed more than R500 000, we had an agreement with them that we would pay them their current accounts and the remainder of their monies, we would stagger that over the next eight months paying them ten percent of the total remaining debt,” said Malakoane.
The MEC added that the aim of the Department is to have all of its debt paid by the end of the financial year and that this is one of the ways that the department is trying to deal with the health system issues.
