A Bloemfontein based couple is angry with Free State emergency medical services for taking almost 4 hours to attend to their emergency. The 28-year- old Mase Makopo and 29-year-old Tebogo Makopo say they are deeply troubled by the death of their baby boy who was born prematurely in their home early Monday morning, after allegedly waiting for hours for an ambulance to arrive at their residence and attend to the mother and new born child. Mase Mokope says as a mother she is in pain, because they were anxiously awaiting their child’s arrival, nothing could have prepared them for the tragedy. Free State Health Department Spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, says that they were only made aware of the incident this morning and that the Department of Health needs to investigate the issue.
Transcript “when the ambulance schedule is full, clients are informed so that they can decide to make use of alternative measures if it is required, which is why they need to investigate.” Mvambi explains.
