The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations, the Hawks, raided the offices of the Free State Department of Health in Bloemfontein earlier today. This comes after the Hawks were issued a warrant to search and seize paperwork at the building in the Bloemfontein CBD. The Hawks also raided the Free State Development Corporation (FDC) in July.

According to provincial health spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, the department is fully compliant with the directorate. “We confirm that the Hawks came to the Free State Department of Health’s Bophelo House office this morning. They were in possession of a valid search and seizure warrant which specified a list of documents they needed from the departmental supply chain. The department is complying with the presence of the Hawks and the documentation they need,” he said.

The department’s headquarters was operating normally when Courant visited the premises. “We are not at liberty as the department to divulge any content of the search and seizure warrant. We believe that the Hawks are at liberty to state such if they so elect,” added Mvambi.
