FS ‘guardian’ jailed for fraud

A 61-year-old Free State man, Simon Tsoleli Mosikili, was recently convicted and sentenced after he was found guilty of unlawfully submitting a claim as guardian of a teenage girl at the Master of the High Court in Bloemfontein.

Mosikili appeared before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrates Court today, where he was sentenced to six years imprisonment which was suspended for five years on condition that he refunds the victim. Mosikili needs to return over R160 000 to the victim.

According to the Hawks spokesperson, Captain Christopher Singo, Mosikili submitted an unlawful claim in 2008, which resulted in an amount of more than R84 000 being paid into the victim’s account.

It is alleged that Mosikili was in possession of the bank card, and he transferred the money without the consent of the victim to use for his own benefit.

“The victim only became aware of the fraudulent transactions when she submitting her legitimate claim upon turning 18. The matter was then reported to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team based in Bloemfontein for further investigation,” added Singo.
