FS govt to issue statement to clarify water shedding claims

The Free State provincial government will issue a media statement today to clear any confusion regarding the implementation of water shedding in the Free State.

This after reports yesterday that water shedding would be implemented from last night.

The provincial MEC for Police, Roads and Transport, Butana Komphela, who is also the chairperson of the Provincial Joint Operations Centre on the drought, told Courant on Monday that water shedding could be implemented across the Free State within the next four days.

Meanwhile, MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Olly Mlamleli, says it is only the Moqhaka Municipality which is currently implementing water shedding. This includes Kroonstad, Steynsrus and Viljoenskroon.

Mlamleli says she is currently assessing the water situation at the different municipalities across the Free State. She says this is important to properly inform residents, should municipalities decide to restrict water availability at certain times of the day. – Christal-Lize Muller
