Riding on the success of a spectacular week of showcasing their talent at this year’s Free State Fashion Week (FSFW), three designers and a model will be showing the world what we have to offer at the Brooklyn Fashion Week in New York, USA, this week. Flying the Free State flag high, they are set to take centre stage in the Big Apple on Friday 11 October 2019.
Thabiso Vincent Leeuw, Mabel Black and Rorisang Ratsui are designers from the Free State who have been invited through the Free State Fashion Council and Free State Fashion Week to showcase.
Joining the designers is the current Miss Free State, Lungile Mazibuko, who was also the 2018 Face of FSFW. Mazibuko is the only model who has been scouted to walk the runway.
The designers will represent Africa in the ‘Hello Africa Fashion’ segment of the Brooklyn Fashion Week, which is aimed at giving African designers a platform to showcase their world-ready garments.
Founder and CEO of FSFW, Candy Smith, said these are exciting times for the province’s designers. “I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate the three designers who will be showcasing their collections on an international platform for the first time. This is the start of many big opportunities for these designers. My advice to them: the sky is not even the limit. Reach for your dreams, be focused and persistent in your vision. The rest will follow. With this in mind, we will make sure to create many more platforms like this for more designers in the future, as this is only the start of greater things to come,” Smith said. – Seithati Semenokane
