Free State Education MEC, Tate Makgoe has expressed confidence that the province will obtain a 90 percent pass rate when the matric pass rate is announced this evening.
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga will announce the 2014 National Senior Certificate (NSC) results during a live broadcast in Auckland Park at 18:00.
The Free State was the best performing province last year and achieved a pass rate of 87.4 percent. The Department said in a statement the MEC is confident the province will achieve its aim of a 90 percent pass rate as well as a 40 percent bachelor pass.
Makgoe will meanwhile give a breakdown of the provincial performance at the Central University of Technology (CUT) at 08h00 on Tuesday morning. He will also acknowledge top students who will be awarded bursaries to further their studies at tertiary level. This will be followed by a public acknowledgement of the top 100 learners who will be awarded bursaries at the annual ‘Well Done Function’. Schools that obtained a 100 percent pass rate will also be acknowledged.
In 2014 more than 26 000 candidates wrote the NSC exams at 329 centers across the province.
