FS Education dept aims for 85% pass rate

SABRINA DEAN – The Free State Education Department says it is confident it will reach an ambitious target of an 85% matric pass rate this year.
Education spokesperson Howard Ndaba says they are waiting with baited breath to find out if hard work by teachers and pupils has paid off. “At the beginning of this year at the release of the results the MEC made a commitment that as a province we will achieve an 85 percent pass rate,” he says.
“Owing to our interventions and owing to the commitment of all learners, teachers and stakeholders we are still confident that we will obtain that result,” he says.
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga is expected to announce the national pass rate this evening. Provincial pass rates are scheduled to be released tomorrow morning.
