FS Education condemns alleged rape of boy at school

The Free State Department of Education has condemned an alleged rape incident at the Namanyane Primary School in Thaba Nchu.

It is alleged that a grade 7 boy at the school was gang-raped in the school’s toilets by five fellow classmates.

The alleged rape of the 13-year-old has left the school, parents and the entire province in shock. The department’s spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, says the group of learners, who allegedly raped the 13-year-old, seems to be part of a notorious gang. They are known in the community and have been suspended several times from the school for their ill-behaviour.

Ndaba told OFM News the group of boys has not yet been suspended following their arrest and that the department is currently looking at measures on how to discipline them, pending the outcome of the court.

Meanwhile, The National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) Phaladi Shuping confirms a group of boys are expected to appear in court before the end of today and that the reported delay in their appearance was due to the absence of social workers.
