FS business robbed at gunpoint


Business owner Xiechun Cheng and his colleagues were robbed at gunpoint during a business robbery in Welkom on 20 January 2020 at around 22:00

The incident took place at Cheng’s business premises in Arrarat Road in Dagbreek, Welkom when three unknown males entered the store with firearms.

According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, the 51-year-old complainant alleges that he and his colleagues were busy sorting out deliveries for different shops. “They proceeded to the back of the shop to load the stock, when three unknown African males appeared with guns. The suspects were wearing blue overalls and their faces were covered with balaclavas,” said Makhele.

The victims were forced to lay face down on the floor whilst the suspects tied their hands behind their backs with wire. The suspects managed to steal six cell phones – two iPhone 11’s, one iPhone XS Max, one iPhone XS Mini, one iPhone 8 Plus and one iPhone 7, as well as a significant amount of cash.

The suspects also managed to steal the complainant’s vehicle, a grey/green VW Jetta 5 with the number plate HFT 473 FS, to flee the crime scene with.

According to Makhele a case of robbery and theft with a firearm was opened at the Welkom SAPS for further investigation. “The Welkom SAPS appeals to anyone with information to contact Detective Sergeant Pitso Matsie of the Welkom Detective Service at 0609859330,” concluded Makhele.
