The Bloemfontein SPCA inspectorate team has been occupied with proactive inspections in Mangaung and the surrounding areas to ensure that the welfare of the animals is handled correctly.
According to an observation by Inspector Lucky Olifant, who noted that as many animals are being transported around the country daily for various purposes, it is important to note that some are being transported incorrectly or in an inhumane manner.
Olifant used a case study he observed to inform the public about the consequences of this.
“During the proactive inspections, a cattle was found tethered with a rope on a trailer. The owner was immediately confronted, and it was clearly explained that this is totally unacceptable,” Olifant wrote on the Bloemfontein SPCA’s social media.
Furthermore, the owner received a written warning to ensure it doesn’t happen again in future.
“The animal was further transported in a more humane and comfortable manner,” he concluded.
If you would like to report any suspicious treatment of animals contact the SPCA on 051-447-3801 or follow the Bloemfontein SPCA on Facebook for more information.
