From pageant queen to TV star

The 2017 Miss Glamorous Free State, Jessica Sithole, has made her debut this past Monday on a soapie called The River on 1Magic.

Jessica told Bloemfontein Courant that being in a show still felt like a dream. “A week before, I was watching the show, The River, completely unaware that I would be acting alongside the very brilliant actors just a week later. It truly is an intense, unbelievable realisation of a dream.”

Jessica said, even though she has a degree in Drama and Theatre Arts from the University of the Free State, acting has not always been top of her list, although modelling was. “I never thought I would truly pursue acting professionally or even be casted, as I have always felt it was not my strongest point.” She explained her decision to study Drama and

Theatre Arts by saying, “The depth of acting and how one is able to bring a character to life is what captured me. I wanted to know more about acting as a whole.” Jessica’s mother enrolled her for a Toddler of the Year competition at the age of three.

She came third out of 99 toddlers in Bloemfontein. When asked, her mother explained her decision of enrolling Jessica for that title saying, “I saw how expressive and confident Jessica was among her peers.”

Jessica added, “I decided to go with what my mother saw in me from a very young age, I believe it is what has led me to where I am today.” She would love to do more pageants in the future but at the moment, Jessica admitted, she wants to fully dive into this new chapter of her life.

Jessica told Bloemfontein Courant that every time she has doubts, she looks back at how faithful God has been in her life, how far she has come and fully trusts that He will further pave the way for her. “A lot of people have contributed to this huge milestone; my parents,
with their steadfast support; my mentor, Apostle David Poonyane, with his fervent prayers; Lebo Leisa, who had suggested and pushed that I audition for this role; Tshedzapictures, who made my year by giving me this opportunity,” Jessica concluded, expressing her gratitude for getting this role.
