Free State SALGA chairperson urges municipalities to develop action plans

The South African Local Government Association’s (SALGA) Free State Chairperson, Olly Mlamleli, says municipalities in the province must start developing their own turnaround strategies in efforts to deal with the challenges they are faced with.

This as municipalities in the province continue to be plagued by maladministration allegations amidst their inability to collect revenue.

According to Auditor-General Kimi Makwetu’s recent report, all municipalities in the province require urgent intervention. They are rated among the worst run municipalities with the highest water boards and Eskom debts. Three municipalities in the province are already under administration.

Mlamleli told OFM News that it’s about time municipalities in the province gets proactive and plan on how to recover from the financial rut they find themselves in.
