Free State mayor intervenes between MMM law enforcement and SANDF

The Mangaung executive mayor, Gregory Nthatisi, has initiated a process to unite the Mangaung Metro Municipality’s (MMM) law enforcement unit and the South African National Defence Force, based at Tempe in Bloemfontein.

The MMM released a statement about the incident that occurred on 2 April 2024, where a municipal traffic officer impounded a military vehicle which allegedly violated traffic rules and regulations.

MMM spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, mentioned that though the matter was settled, Nthatisi feels the matter should be addressed through the proper channels.

“I want to assure people of Mangaung, who saw some of the visuals through social media, that this matter is receiving the necessary attention and to date, we have made significant progress with regards to our relations,” concluded Nthatisi.
