Free State Health says damning Universitas report is inconclusive

The Free State Health Department has finally responded to damning reports about the Universitas Academic Hospital earlier this year by the Office of Health Standards Compliance (OHSC).

Mondli Mvambi, Free State Health’s spokesperson, says reports on the Bloemfontein-based academic hospital are not as bad as media reports make them out to be. Mvambi says that the report which was released by the OHSC earlier this year is not conclusive, as the OHSC did not involve the department on its findings.

Furthermore, commenting on matters that were raised in the report by the OHSC earlier this year, Mvambi added that the department is doing all it can to ensure that hospitals are compliant of the core standards, which include cleanliness and availability of medicine, among other matters.

This response comes after the minister of Health, Aaron Motsoaledi, commented on the report by the OHSC, saying something horrible happened at Universitas Academic Hospital which used to be the best academic hospital in South Africa. It is now the worst.
