The Department of Treasury in the Free State is happy to still maintain clean audit results.
This after the Auditor General congratulated the province on an outstanding audit since 2009. Spokesperson Gunnett Kaaf says the MEC of Finance, Elzabe Roackman, thinks it has now created a challenge to pull up other departments that are performing less.
“We have to increase our role in assisting other departments, particularly regarding public finance management so that there is no compliance in other regulations. We have to reach our target of Operation Clean Audit 2014,” he says.
Kaaf says it proves that the treasury department practices what it preaches. “As a provincial treasury, we obviously should set an example. The last three years our management insisted that there has to be an agreement with all sorts of rules in any department. There has been consistency and officials were working together with management to make sure we achieve the clean audit,” says Kaaf.
“Treasury plays an assisting role in terms of public finances over all government departments in the province. It strengthens our credibility and our image,” he says.
