Free State celebrates 94 years of community with Edgars CommUnity Competition

For 94 years, Edgars has been such a crucial part of South Africa’s history and society and as a token of appreciation, Edgars would like to extend its warmest and most heartfelt gratitude to the moms, dads, grannies, granddads, and every South African that has supported the retailer throughout these nine decades.

Edgars has therefore embarked on a journey to show its appreciation by launching the Edgars CommUnity Competition.

The brand is distributing R3 million with the hopes of supporting, nurturing and empowering young minds and schools that educate them.

Norman Drieselmann, CEO of Retailability, mentioned that the contribution is a tribute to the people and communities that supported the brand over generations.

“It’s our way of expressing ‘thank you’ by investing in local schools and the children within the communities we serve.”

Drieselmann mentioned that Edgars invited school-going children to create a self-portrait that reflects their uniqueness. These portraits were then displayed in selected store windows.

“Our customers define the Edgars brand, and this extraordinary campaign invites every individual who has contributed to the Edgars story to join in the opportunity to win not just for themselves, but for their schools as well” said Drieselmann.

He further added that one child per store stood the chance to win a R5,000 cash prize, along with a R20,000 grant for their school and lots of instant prizes.

Three schools in the Free State won their share of R3 million, each school winning R20 000 in prize money.

The three winning schools in the Free State were:

  1. Eduplus Independent School
  2. Tweespruit Combined School
  3. Unitas Secondary School
