For the first time ever, the Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa will be conducting free health screenings for the public in Bloemfontein. The screenings will take place from 15 – 19 May 2013 at the Brandwag Shopping Centre in Bloemfontein. The screenings include blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and body mass index testing.
When: Wednesday 15th May to Saturday 18th May from 10.00 to 16.00, and Sunday 19th May from 10.00 to 12.00
Where: Brandwag Shopping Centre, Melville Drive, Brandwag, Bloemfontein
What: free health screening and counselling – blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and body mass index testing – first-come first-served basis
The main focus of the screenings is to prevent the preventable – heart disease and stroke – amongst all South Africans. In South Africa these are the second biggest killers after HIV/Aids. Due to unhealthy lifestyles, every family is touched by preventable heart disease and stroke, and we are losing our beloved ones too early.
Dr Vash Mungal-Singh, CEO of the HSF, says: “We all live busy lives, but making time to show our hearts a little attention now is well worth the effort in the long run, and it needn’t mean big changes. It’s never too late to adopt a healthy lifestyle, but starting sooner rather than later will make sure that you live a healthy life. “
