Francke cleared of dangerous tackle

MORGAN PIEK

Griquas centre, Jonathan Francke has been clear of the dangerous tackle charge against him, following a disciplinary hearing.

The player was issued a red card by Craig Joubert in the 7th minute of their 31-24 loss against the Sharks in Kimberley on Saturday.

Coach Hawies Fourie is relieved at the discussion, because he felt the player had lifted Sharks fullback SP Marais, however didn’t tip the player.

Meanwhile, Fourie told OFM Sport this weekend’s Currie Cup clash will deliver an interesting battle in the front row against the Toyota Free State Cheetahs after both sides struggled in the department.

“Both teams will look to take one and other on in the scrums, both teams struggled a bit so that will definitely be a big content.

“We had a look at what went wrong; Thomas du Toit is one of the better scrummers in South Africa.

“The Sharks out scrummed the Highlanders in the quarter-finals of the Super Rugby, so I don’t think we should be too ashamed of ourselves,” said Fourie.

“Some of the scrums we only had seven players packing down, with Carel Greeff falling out to cover on the wing for kicks, etc.,” he added.

Saturday’s untelevised match at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein kicks off at 15:00.
