GALOOME SHOPANE A fourth elderly woman has been murdered in the Free State in less than a week.
Police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng says 82-year-old Elleanor Dorfling was found dead in her bath tub with her hands tied together in her house in Allanridge this morning.
The police suspect that she was drowned in the tub.
Thakeng says the suspect or suspects gained access through the roof of the elderly woman’s house.
He says police received a call this morning from neighbours telling them that water was flowing out of the woman’s yard.
“She was staying alone and it’s obvious that the suspects knew that. Her neighbours informed the police that ‘something is suspicious, water is coming out (of the yard).’ That was the water used inside the bath, they didn’t lock the tap when they choked the elderly woman,” explains Thakeng.
Provincial police released a statement earlier this week saying they are concerned about the fact that elderly women are increasingly being targeted in the province.
Police are investigating a case of murder and no arrests have been made yet.
