Four BTK gang members sentenced to life for murder

On 1 September 2012 at about 02:20 the victim, Neo David Dichaba (51), was asleep at a house in Phahameng Location, Bultfontein, when four accused members of a gang called ‘Born to kill’ or better known as “BTK” attacked the family with the intention of stabbing his nephews, Mamello Motsitsi and Aubrey Dichaba.

The deceased was the first person the gang members came across and he was fatally stabbed. The suspects then fled on foot from the house of the deceased.

A case of murder was registered and Constable Bethuel Senkhe achieved the four arrests on the same day. The case was then handed over to Detective Constable Solly Bonas who secured the conviction.

The suspects were found guilty on Count 1: Prevention of Organised Crime Act 121 of 1998 – Gang Activities and Count 2-Murder. The accused Lucky Mhlophe (27), Thembi Mkobo (25), Given Mkabane (26) and Mr Nkosana Jabane (26) were sentenced on 13 June 2017 as follows: five years for Count 1 and life imprisonment for Count 2.

“My appreciation to the two members who ensured that justice prevails by bringing these young men to book and out of the society. This conviction will send a clear cut message to other gang members that they cannot go around terrorising innocent people and get away with it. We will continue working closely with Justice Department to ensure that gangsterism is totally eradicated within Bultfontein station precinct,” said Station Commander of Bultfontein Lt Col. Motsamai Lefefa.
