The former Wilgehof teacher who was found guilty of racism has been employed in another school about 11km away from his former school of employment.
The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has further expressed concern at Leonard MacKay’s re-appointment following a complaint found in 2013 that the conduct of the teacher, amounted to racism and hate speech as defined in the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act (PEPUDA).
SAHRC Spokesperson Isaac Mangena says they are questioning the decision taken by the Department of Education to re-appoint MacKay.
Mangena says they are concerned if MacKay was properly rehabilitated before taking up his new post.
According to a weekly newspaper, MacKay has been appointed at Dr CF Visser Primary School and further report the Department’s spokesperson Howard Ndaba says it will discuss the matter with the School Governing Board (SGB) at the school to get a thorough understanding of how Mackay ended up at the school.
