A 28-year-old Nigerian man, Obiera Romeo Obiera, is expected back in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on August 4, when he will lodge a formal bail application. He will be remanded in custody until then.

This follows after police found a makeshift drug laboratory at a house in Helicon Heights where he resided. Free State police spokesperson, Peter Kareli, told Bloemfontein Courant that Bayswater police were patrolling the area on Sunday July 26, when they stopped to question Obiera.

They reported that he was acting suspiciously at the time. Their patrol came in the wake of a recent spate of house-breakings in the area. Kareli went on to add that Obiera refused to provide the officers with his personal information. This led to him being searched. Police found a cell phone which, upon further investigation, led them to a house in Gascony Crescent.

Kareli says three plasma screens with filed off serial numbers, face value documents, and six cell phones were confiscated. The suspect was charged with possession of suspected stolen property and manufacturing of narcotics. – Dane Beisheim
