Five suspects aged between 25 and 40 years appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on 1 July 2020 on a charge of house robbery.
The suspects, Teboho Motludisi, Tatolo Bakale, Zandile Mhami, Tumelo Kholoane and Sediwe Mrwetyana, will remain in police custody as the case was postponed to 8 July 2020 for bail application.
According to police spokesperson, Colonel Thandi Mbambo, it is alleged that during the morning of Saturday 27 June 2020 a group of unknown males entered a house in Sterling Street, Groenvlei near Bloemfontein.
“They went to the bedroom and tied the 32 year-old victim, her husband and brother with electrical cables. They demanded money. The suspects then searched the house and took an undisclosed amount of money, bank cards and clothes before fleeing the scene. The incident was immediately reported to the police,” said Mbambo.
According to Mbambo, the Park Road Trio-Crimes Tracing team went on a manhunt from Sunday until the early hours of Monday and successfully arrested all five suspects.
Four of the suspects reside in Brandwag, Bloemfontein and the other one in Botshabelo. The stolen clothes, a pair of sneakers, and the toy gun used to threaten the victims, were all recovered and will be used as evidence.
