Five in Bloemhof court for suspected stolen beef

Five suspects appeared in the Bloemhof Magistrates’ Court today, for contravening Section 2 of the Stock Theft Act 57 of 1959.

The suspects, John Mogapi, 53, and Andrew Jantjie, 35, were arrested on Saturday 18 July 2015 between Sterkfontein farm and Bloemhof town.

The men were driving a bakkie fully loaded with cow meat. When Bloemhof police asked them where the meat comes from they could not explain. The two were arrested, their vehicle and the meat were confiscated. The meat is suspected to be from a stolen cow in Sterkfontein.

Further investigations led the police to three houses where more meat was found. Three suspects, Rachel Ntomane, 35, Selinah Marumo, 35, and Pogiso Maseng, 24, allegedly purchased the meat from Mogapi and Jantjie.

The three were also charged for possession of suspected stolen beef. In total, beef to the value of nearly R10 000 was confiscated.

They all appeared in court, Ntomane and Marumo were released on R200.00 bail each, while Mogapi, Jantjie and Maseng were remanded in custody. They will all reappear on Monday, 27 July 2015.
