The new principal of Brebner High School, Mrs Elbie Roberson, is the first female to be appointed as principal for any co-ed secondary school in Bloemfontein.
According to Johann Prinsloo from the school, the appointment of Roberson is a historical milestone since the school was formally formed in 1906 by Dr John Brebner, Superintendent of Education in the then Orange Free State Republic.
Prinsloo told Bloemfontein Courant that Roberson was appointed as teacher at Brebner High School in 1994. She went through the ranks as Head of Department and in 2007 was appointed deputy principal of the school. She has also been Warden of the Hostel since 1998.
She has been part of the transformation agenda at Brebner High School and has a thorough understanding of the school and all the challenges and successes through the years of change, eventually culminating in Brebner High being one of the biggest secondary schools in the Free State with almost 2000 learners enrolled.
Roberson is dedicated to taking Brebner High School to greater heights to meet the new challenges of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
