A delivery truck spontaneously caught on fire near the N8 outside of Botshabelo this morning. The charred vehicle was attended to by Mangaung Fire and Rescue after being engulfed in flames.
Truck driver, Mosiuwa Ramakarane, said that they noticed the flames at the back of the vehicle after loading cardboard and plastic for recycling.
“We noticed smoke from the back and then flames. The problem is that we didn’t have any water with us, so we couldn’t put out the fire in time. Within 30 minutes the vehicle had been destroyed,” said Ramakarane.
Police Sergeant Morapedi Masitise told Bloemfontein Courant that no one had been injured in the fire. “They say they just saw the flames as they were about to drive. The cause of the fire is not yet known,” he said.
