A father and son who were seriously injured during a house robbery in Ficksburg on Monday morning are still in a critical condition in the Dihlabeng Hospital in Bethlehem.
Free State police spokesperson, Phumelelo Dhlamini, told Bloemfontein Courant yesterday that Yunus Suleman and his 21-year-old son Ayaaz both sustained gunshot wounds to the stomach when they were attacked in their home in Ficksburg at about 03:00.
According to him Yunus woke up after hearing strange noises in the house. He went to investigate and saw a suspect in the corridor of his home. The robber took out a firearm and shot Yunus. At this stage it is not clear when Ayaaz was shot. He said both father and son were conscious after the attack and managed to alert police. Jewellery is missing from the house.
It is alleged that the suspect gained entrance through a kitchen window. No arrests have been made yet. Dhlamini appealed to anyone with information can call their nearest police station. Police are investigating a case of attempted murder and house robbery. The investigation continues. – Christal-Lize Muller.
