Feeling Scared

Brenda Myburgh

After hearing on the news about someone who was shot through his window, my middle son suddenly felt very scared to go near the windows. I was reminded of what an influence today’s broken world has on not just adults, but also on our children. We are not even a family that talk about violence or the news all the time.

We need to be so weary of being drawn in by all the negativity around us. This leads to a shift in focus. Instead of knowing we can be calm in the midst of the storm, we feel a sense of “has God forgotten about us?” It is one of the many ways the enemy steals from us. When we feel scared we start to doubt and that is exactly what he wants us to do.

In Psalm 4v7 David talks about the joy and rejoicing God put in his heart. Verse 8 says: “In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for You, Lord, alone make me dwell in safety and confident trust.”(Amplified). We need to trust God with confidence and believe that He is our safety. If we live in fear every day the enemy has won, as we have lost all joy and given control to fear.
Blessings
