SABRINA DEAN – All competitors participating in the third and final day of the grueling Fauresmith 200 National Endurance Championship have crossed the finish line at the showgrounds in Fauresmith and organisers are now hard at work tallying up the final results.
Race coordinator Charmaine Nickisson says the winners will be announced during an awards ceremony starting at 7.30.
She says the first pair over the finish line this morning, 20-year-old lightweight rider Sharina Bosch on purebred Arabian Mardien Bluejeans owned by Jan Uys from Tosca, clocked the fastest overall time of the ride at eight hours, 25 seconds. Riders and horses have covered a distance of 201km over tough, rugged terrain during the last three days.
Nardus Scheepers was first across the line in the standard weight category, accompanied by his son CF Scheepers in the children’s category. The first heavyweight rider over the line was Lucas Fourie on Shakira, a horse that has won the ride on more than one occasion in the past.
This year’s ride also boasts international competitors from Namibia, the USA, Czechoslovakia, the United Kingdom and a team from the Kingdom of Lesotho.
