Famsa plans a celebration to be remembered

SABRINA DEAN – As the world celebrates International Family Day tomorrow, 15 May 2013, Families South Africa (Famsa) is taking its message down to grass roots level by painting a wall mural with the community of Heidedal in Bloemfontein.
The theme for this year is “Families are precious!” and Famsa Bloemfontein director Karn Botha says they wanted to celebrate with something that will last for a long time.
She says Foodzone in Heidedal gave the permission to paint one of its walls. "We decided we want to do something so that people can be reminded for quite a long time about familes and how important familes in society are," she says.
“We have invited schools to take part in the day and be part of the whole celebration,” she says.
Twelve schools, as well as two teams from the Central University of Technology, will be participating from 8am tomorrow. “The children were asked to prepare a drawing ahead of time, just to make sure it will be ok to go on the wall, and tomorrow they will paint something about how they see family life on the wall,” she says.
Botha is also inviting businesses and members of the comunity to come and celebrate with them by painting a section of wall. She says all paint and other supplies will be provided thanks to a generous sponsorship. Companes that participate will also be permitted to incorporate their logos in the design they paint on the 2×2 metre section of wall allocated to them.
Anyone who would like to get involved, or who can assist Famsa with its work in general, can contact the organisation on 051-525-2395.
