Don’t miss this year’s biennial exhibition of artworks by the very talented students from the Nellie Brisley Art Studio on show now until 5 October 2014 at Oliewenhuis Art Museum. The exhibition showcase original and spontaneous works of art created by students aged 6 to 18 years old.
The Art Studio grew from small beginnings in a sitting room in 2000. From there the studio expanded, moving to Oliewenhuis Art Museum where it is still situated today. The studio aims to teach students Fine Arts and to expose them to different media such as pencil, ink, soft pastels, oil pastels, charcoal, collage, acrylic paint and oil paint.
‘We strive to achieve the difficult but essential balance between teaching art skills and encouraging students to discover a love for the creative process. We encourage our young art students to express themselves freely without fear of making mistakes or making a mess. It is essential that every child has the opportunity to take art lessons up to Grade 3, during a stage when children are not afraid to give expression to their imagination. They will get messy, they will have fun, they will create and they will experiment with different colours, shapes and textures’ says founding owner Nellie Brisley.
The exhibition features the 15 selected entries for this year’s renowned Santam Child Art online group exhibition as well as the artworks of those students who excelled at the 2014 Bloem Show, where students won several trophies, as well as first, second and third places.
