Facial reconstruction done after human skeleton was found in dam

A human skeleton was found near the Klippan Dam in Welkom. Welkom SAPS were called in after a fisher man discovered the human skeleton near the dam in the bushes in September last year. Nobody came forward to claim the deceased and thus the facial reconstruction was done, so that relatives can identify the body.

The skeleton could be that of a middle-aged man. Gumboots used in the mining environment as well as a bag was found next to the remains of the body. It is suspected that the deceased could be an illegal mine worker.

Nobody came forward to claim the deceased while at Welkom Government Mortuary and thus the skull was send to Forensic Anthropology Research Centre to reconstruct the face. This was done in the Department of Anatomy Faculty of Health Sciences in the University of Pretoria.

Should anyone have information leading to the tracing of the deceased relatives, Detective Warrant Officer Slang Van Zyl of Welkom Detective Service can be contacted at cellphone number 082 334 7301.
