According to Brandfort Forum’s chairperson, Naas Bredenkamp, an external service provider is needed to tackle Brandfort’s water crisis. He says some members of the Masilonyana Municipality have proposed that the municipal outsource a service provider with in-depth water expertise. His statement comes as the municipality experiences severe water shortages. Bredenkamp emphasises that it’s impossible for an expanding municipality such as Masilonyana, consisting of Theunissen, Brandfort, Winburg and Bulfontein, among others, to be able to supply enough water. He says the reality is that all areas are growing on a daily basis.
“If we want to make provision for our children and grandchildren, we should all take responsibility for every drop that we use. We should take the necessary steps to ensure that the resources we have, are able to be utilised in a responsible and effective manner. There is still some hope, in spite of all the mishaps. There are different alternatives on the table at this stage, unfortunately we are not convinced that the municipal management is on board yet. There are actions and processes in the pipeline.”
Bredenkamp says the municipality should consider other options.
“All of the efforts of the past went nowhere, they are all null and void. We keep on trying and we keep on dedicating ourselves to a solution. You simply cannot allow a city to die just because there is one crucial element that’s not in place.”
