As established artists have navigated the complexities of the art world and have navigated countless challenges, triumphs, and setbacks, a local art workshop plans to create a space where emerging artists can learn from these artists through workshops they hosted over the last few weeks.

This is according to Lelanie de Wet, the marketing, communication, and brand Manager at PH Attorneys. She added that their experiences provide valuable insights into the practical aspects of creating and promoting art.

“We do not have a lot of opportunities in the Free State for emerging artists to learn and get exposure to what emerging artists have in the big cities. Therefore, it is vital that we also create mentorship and educational opportunities for emerging Free State artists as part of the New Breed Art Competition initiative,” said De Wet.

The New Breed Art Workshops that started earlier this month stretched through this month with the last workshop being in September.

“Our first workshop focused on mentorship, and provided constructive feedback and critique, aiding emerging artists in identifying areas for improvement. Emerging artists also receive validation and mentorship from established artists which can boost their confidence. It validates their path, encouraging them to persevere and take risks in their artistic journey,” she added.

De Wet said that emerging artists in the city often lack access to opportunities in comparison to their counterparts who are in larger urban centres than Bloemfontein and these workshops seek to stand in as a beacon of innovation and change.

“By offering free educational platforms, they inject fresh vitality into the local art scene. These workshops bridge the gap, providing access to knowledge, mentorship, and skill development that emerging artists might otherwise struggle to attain.”

In partnership with ABSA Bank, the New Breed Art Competition established by PH Attorneys, aims to take its commitment to nurturing talent a step further through these workshops.

“As we look forward to the upcoming workshops, we celebrate the spirit of innovation and artistry that defines the Free State’s creative landscape,” De Wet concluded.
