Duane Petrus – The psychiatric evaluation of an Odendaalsrus woman who is accused of fatally stabbing her 3-year-old niece was concluded earlier than it was expected.
The 23-year-old Mavis Mahamo was expected to appear before the Odendaalsrus magistrate’s court this morning.
The NPA’s spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping, said Mahamo instead appeared in court last week Thursday, due to the early conclusion of her psychiatric evaluation.
She is accused of the murder of her three-year-old niece, Karabo Nale, who was discovered in July by a shepherd an open field, with 99 stab wounds on her body.
Shuping says she will be in court again on 18 September, when the when the doctor’s report regarding the findings of her evaluation will made known.
She remains in custody at the Kroonstad Correctional Centre.
