Eunice High School’s first netball team walked away the champions at this year’s St Andrews Netball Festival.

The girls in green, coached by Khanyisa Chawane and managed by Natasha Jansen van Vuuren, played 14 games over a four-day period. This team won 11 matches, drew 1 and lost 1 before they played in the final against Durban Girls College and beat them 21 -16.

Chawane and Jansen van Vuuren are understandably very proud of their side. “The first netball team did extremely well and proved themselves worthy during the festival by earning the gold medal as the festival winners. These girls showed a fighting spirit like never before.”

The team consisted of Tarien van der Linde, Carli de Jager, Carmen du Plessis, Lee Ann Usher, Juanita Kruger, Irene Struwig, Vanisha Wilson, Daniella Hugo, Mienke Esterhuyse and Anname Kruger.

The festival that took place from 7 to 10 April, was hosted for the eighteenth year by St Andrews School for Girls in Johannesburg, and attracted some of the top schools in the country.

The teams include private and government schools from Gauteng, KZN, Cape Town, East London, Bloemfontein, Nelspruit and White River. This event hosts some 450 girls, 100 officials, 35 umpires, 26 scorers, 12 paramedics and four physiotherapists.
