The senior netball team of Eunice Girls’ School in Bloemfontein took on 27 top netball schools at the St. Andrew’s netball tournament in Bedfordview, Johannesburg, and came up tops the second year in a row. The 192 matches played over a period of four days tested the team against some of the best in die country. Eunice went unbeaten through the tournament, with a 20-20 draw against St. Stithians their only blemish. Under the guide of their coach, the Protea player Maryka Holtzhausen, the Bloemfontein girls scored a fantastic 450 goals in 15 games.
The home team, St. Andrew’s, was equally impressive during the pool phase winning 13 of their 15 matches including a 19-12 victory over St. Stithians. However, their only defeats both came at the hands of eventual champions Eunice who beat the home side 29-10 and again 20-14 in the final. The final standings: Eunice, St. Andrew’s, Krugersdorp, St. Stithians, Cornwall Hill, Beaulieu College, St. Dunstan’s, Pretoria Girls’ High, Collegiate, Wykeham Collegiate, St. Mary’s Waverley, Springfield, Crawford Lonehill, St. Mary’s Pretoria, Kingsmead, Jeppe Girls, St. Anne’s, Brescia House, Roedean, Redam, Assumption Covent, Penryn College, Durban Girls, Holy Rosary Convent and Fatima.
