Taking place in the picturesque Moolmanshoek Private Game Reserve, the 4Peaks Mountain Challenge opposes the idea that the Free State is just a flat path on your way to Cape Town.
This unique circular race runs along the tops of the Witteberg Mountain range, forming an unforgettable horse shoe, which encloses the Moolmanshoek Valley.
This year the challenge will be run between 20 and 22 September, with the inclusion of a 10-km Panoramic Route Run as well as a 20-km and 40-km mountain bike race. The Panoramic Route Run will follow the base of the mountain range as a great option for those not yet ready to tackle the mountains, while the bike race on Sunday will ensure something for the whole family to do.
Runners still have time to enter the 24-km mountain challenge, which has an elevation gain of 1800 m, with the highest peak at 2324 km. 4Peaks Mountain Challenge is known as the toughest 24-km mountain race in the country.
Most athletes make a weekend of this event with friends and family, adding their own value with activities like a 10-km Bowl Run on jeep track. The 4Peaks Base fee is R1300 while the Panoramic 10-km fee is R150. To enter, visit www.4peaks.co.za.
