A performance by songstress Tsimo Lekaota also known simply as Tsimo, may be just what you need to get into the weekend vibe. The local singer will be giving a glimpse of her next EP at Pimento, University of the Free State, on Thursday.
According to Tsimo her latest musical offering is all about good music. “People can expect a lot more soul and R&B. What is really cool is that I took part in a lot of the production side of the music,” said Tsimo. The EP will be officially released later this year.
The long-time lyricist elaborated that this time she tried her hand at composing and arranging the music. “I wanted to see if I would actually be capable of creating music that I can be proud of on my own because it is very easy to just get a beat from someone else and just write lyrics to it. I really wanted to see what I can accomplish if I take part in the whole process,” Tsimo explained.
Tsimo along with a live band dazzled the crowd of music lovers at the release of her last EP at Moods and Flavors late last year with an array of self-penned songs and soulful covers. Tsimo expressed that compared to her previous musical releases she was better able to place more of her artistic print onto the new songs.
“There is a lot of freedom vocally because I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time to sit in the studio and play around with the music a lot more. So more of myself is going to come out in this music,” she said.
All lovers of music are encouraged to attend the show even music insiders. “It is definitely for lovers of soul and R&B. DJs and others in the entertainment industry should also come and have a listen because this is music that they would be interested in playing,” said Tsimo.
