Empty promises to Mangaung residents

It has been at least five months since the executive mayor of the Mangaung Metro Municipality, Mxolisi Siyonzana promised to complete the reconstruction process of Moshoeshoe Road in Bloemfontein – within 100 days.

Siyonzana, outlining his 100 days plan in January, announced for his first days in office he will revive major stalled projects in the metro, which also included the completion of Moshoeshoe road.

Meanwhile, OFM News previously reported the Auditor-General’s consolidated general report, that was presented by the business unit leader for Free State Odwa Duda, stated the metro has forfeited conditional grants worth more than R400 million due to slow project implementation. The slow implementation of projects also involve the delays in completing some of the road projects in the Metro.

It’s been more than five months since the announcement, however, there has not been any production on the road.  When it comes to the AG’s latest report, the service delivery reflections of the metro also include how poor service delivery has resulted in increased service delivery projects and community unrest.

Only 47% of the upgrading of Maselspoort water treatment works was done, which was explained to be due to underspending of the USDG grant as result of poor management.
