The Proteas opening batsman, Dean Elgar, is heading to the Caribbean where he will be replacing his former VKB Knights teammate, Rilee Rossouw, in the triangular One-Day International series.
Cricket South Africa confirmed late on Wednesday afternoon that Rossouw is heading home and will be replaced by Elgar.
Rossouw dislocated his shoulder during the Proteas 47-runs victory over Australia on Tuesday evening and has been ruled out for the remainder of the series.
The teams manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee, confirmed that Rossouw will be consulting a shoulder specialist upon his return to South Africa.
“Rilee fell awkwardly on his shoulder while fielding the ball on the boundary during the match against Australia last night.
“He was immediately taken to the local hospital for X-rays which confirmed he had dislocated the AC joint of his right shoulder.
“He will be unable to take further part in this series and will return back to South Africa as soon as possible.
“The extent of the injury and the recovery period will only be known once he has been assessed and managed by one of Cricket South Africa’s panel of shoulder specialists.”
The injury comes as a massive blow to the Proteas, however, Elgar will give the teams bowling attack added spin options.
The Proteas and Australia will lock horns again on Saturday evening at Warner Park in St Kitts. – MORGAN PIEK
