The construction of two 132 kV towers on the Everest-Welkom Bulk feeder in Welkom is taking longer than expected and restoration of electricity supply is expected to be completed by tomorrow, 28 October 2020.
According to Stefanie Janse van Rensburg, the two towers are required to replace the ones that collapsed at 20:00 on Sunday, 25 October 2020, due to strong winds in the Goldfields.
Supply to large parts of Welkom was interrupted as a result of the damage. The whole CBD, industrial area, Bronville, Mandela Park, Doorn, Extensions 9 and 15, and parts of Extension 19 are currently without electricity supply.
Affected consumers are reminded to treat all electrical installations as live and dangerous as electricity can be switched on without notice.
Eskom apologises for the inconvenience and asks for consumers to be patient while restoration is being performed.
