Electricity supply in various parts of Bloemfontein will be restored by 17:00 this evening after a breakdown of a major power line occurred earlier today. A number of Centlec technicians are currently working on the problem after they were deployed to the affected substation.

According to Centlec spokesperson, Lele Mamatu, the cause of the breakdown has not yet been determined. “We have sent out our technicians to investigate the cause of the loss of power. The expectation is that we should be able to restore power in the affected areas by this afternoon,” said Mamatu.

Bloemfontein Courant received various complaints from residents in Universitas who were out of electricity for parts of the day. Different parts of the city were affected by the blackout including Pellisier, Bainsvlei, Kwaggafontein, Kelly’s View and Waterbron.

“The team of technicians will investigate what caused the trip of a major line of power supply. The line that was affected is one of our major channels in that part of the city,” explained Mamatu. – Nomaqhawe Mtebele
